A deploy removed its container and started a new one, so it came up on an empty directory: a new database, a new admin password, and every earlier login gone. Nothing in upaas said that a deploy keeps only an app's volumes. The Restart button stops and starts the same container and so keeps its files, which makes it easy to assume a deploy does too.
