Fixes #229: four of the five README.md sentences the documents gate failed (#219 (comment)) are rewritten, each checked against the code on next; the IDs sentence stays.

  • Keywords: the score sentence split in two; src/clip-keywords.ts computes dot over norms, so -1 to 1.
  • IDs: unchanged, because the gate's IDs finding does not hold: the pinned parser (commander 14.0.3, parseOptions) passes a negative number to a command with no subcommands as an argument unless some option's short flag is a digit, and none in bin/quak.ts is, so quak get -1 reaches parseID and logs Invalid file ID: -1.
  • The JSON beside each original: mlData drops the whole clip block (src/backup.ts, src/metadata-backup.ts).
  • Collection directories: a file name gets its ID past 255 bytes, a collection name past 250, and either is then cut short (uniqueNames with withJSON).
  • failures.json: lastTriedAt is one timestamp per run, taken after the run's refresh (const now = Date.now() in src/backup.ts).

Reworked after #230 (comment); all three findings taken.

No other change; make fmt reflowed the touched paragraphs.

Fixes https://git.eeqj.de/sneak/quak/issues/229: four of the five `README.md` sentences the documents gate failed (https://git.eeqj.de/sneak/quak/issues/219#issuecomment-156230) are rewritten, each checked against the code on `next`; the IDs sentence stays. - Keywords: the score sentence split in two; `src/clip-keywords.ts` computes dot over norms, so -1 to 1. - IDs: unchanged, because the gate's IDs finding does not hold: the pinned parser (commander 14.0.3, `parseOptions`) passes a negative number to a command with no subcommands as an argument unless some option's short flag is a digit, and none in `bin/quak.ts` is, so `quak get -1` reaches `parseID` and logs `Invalid file ID: -1`. - The JSON beside each original: `mlData` drops the whole `clip` block (`src/backup.ts`, `src/metadata-backup.ts`). - Collection directories: a file name gets its ID past 255 bytes, a collection name past 250, and either is then cut short (`uniqueNames` with `withJSON`). - `failures.json`: `lastTriedAt` is one timestamp per run, taken after the run's refresh (`const now = Date.now()` in `src/backup.ts`). Reworked after https://git.eeqj.de/sneak/quak/pulls/230#issuecomment-156271; all three findings taken. No other change; `make fmt` reflowed the touched paragraphs. Model: fable-5-1

Review: FAIL, needs rework.

  1. README.md line 781 ("Collection directories"): "It is then cut short before the ID, just far enough to fit." now follows "So does a collection name longer than 250 bytes, which leaves room for .json.", so "It" reads as the collection name alone. A long file name is cut short too (uniqueNames, src/backup.ts). Acceptable: "Either name is then cut short before the ID, just far enough to fit."

  2. README.md line 837 (failures.json): "lastTriedAt: the start of the run that last tried it" is not true by the README's own wording. The README says a backup takes its lock before its refresh (line 855), and that a refresh on a large account takes a while (line 461). The timestamp is taken after the refresh (src/backup.ts, const now = Date.now()). "Refreshes the library as it starts" (line 351) does not make the end of the refresh the start of the run. Acceptable: "lastTriedAt: when the run that last tried it finished its refresh, as a Unix time in milliseconds;"

  3. README.md line 475 (IDs): -1 was dropped for a reason that is false. The pinned option parser (commander 14.0.3, parseOptions) treats a negative number given to a command that has no subcommands as an argument, unless an option uses a digit as its short flag, and none in bin/quak.ts does. So quak get -1 reaches parseID and logs Invalid file ID: -1, as the original sentence said. The commit message and the PR body claim the opposite, as does #229. Acceptable: keep the original sentence with -1, and say in the PR body that the gate's IDs finding does not hold. Also, the commit message says a collection name gets its ID "at 250 bytes"; it gets its ID past 250 bytes.

Unverified item: I read the -1 parse path in the parser's source but did not run it.

Reworked against #230 (comment), still one commit:

  1. Line 781: now "Either name is then cut short before the ID, just far enough to fit."
  2. Line 837: now "lastTriedAt: when the run that last tried it finished its refresh, as a Unix time in milliseconds;" (const now = Date.now() follows await lib.refresh() in src/backup.ts).
  3. Line 475: the original sentence with -1 is restored. Confirmed in node_modules/commander 14.0.3 after make bootstrap by reading parseOptions (read, not run): the top-level parser hands -1 down as unknown, and get, with no subcommands and no digit short flag in its ancestry (-v is the only short flag in bin/quak.ts), takes it as its argument, so parseID logs Invalid file ID: -1. The commit message and PR body no longer claim the parser refuses -1, and say a collection name gets its ID past 250 bytes.

Review: FAIL, needs rework.

  1. Commit message and PR title. The title "README: five sentences fixed for the documents gate (closes #229)" is no longer true: the IDs sentence is now unchanged, so only four sentences change. The commit body also says the four "are replaced with the gate's rewrite", but the lastTriedAt line and "Either name is then cut short" are not the gate's wording (#219 (comment)). Acceptable: the title "README: four sentences fixed for the documents gate (closes #229)" on both the commit and the PR, and "Four are rewritten after a check against the code:" in the body.

Unverified item: the -1 parse path was read in the pinned parser's source, not run.

The documents gate on `next` failed five README sentences
(#219 (comment)). Four
are rewritten after a check against the code: the keywords score
sentence is split in two; `mlData` drops the whole `clip` block, as
`src/backup.ts` and `src/metadata-backup.ts` do; a file name gets its
ID past 255 bytes and a collection name past 250, and either is then
cut short, as `uniqueNames` does; `lastTriedAt` is taken once per run,
after its refresh. The IDs sentence keeps `-1`: the pinned option
parser passes a negative number to a command with no subcommands as an
argument, so `quak get -1` reaches the ID check. Nothing else changes;
`make fmt` reflowed the touched paragraphs.

  1. Commit message body, second sentence: "Four are rewritten after a check against the code: the keywords score sentence is split in two; mlData drops the whole clip block, as src/backup.ts and src/metadata-backup.ts do; a file name gets its ID past 255 bytes and a collection name past 250, and either is then cut short, as uniqueNames does; lastTriedAt is taken once per run, after its refresh." It runs to about 60 words and chains four changes with semicolons where a bulleted list belongs. Acceptable: end the sentence at "Four are rewritten after a check against the code:" and give the four changes as a bulleted list below it, one per item, in the same words.
