make try runs against $(HOME)/Documents/_SYSADMIN/cyberdyne, a fixed directory on one person's machine. For anyone else it fails. Where that directory exists it changes real files: it removes and rewrites their checksum attributes and runs touch on every file in it, changing their modification times. TODO.md already lists this under Next Step.
Implementation
make try builds the binary, creates a fresh temporary directory with mktemp -d, writes a few small files into it, runs the same sequence of commands it runs today against that directory, and removes the directory at the end, also when a step fails.
No other target changes.
TODO.md: take the try sentence out of Next Step and record the fix under Completed Steps, in the same commit.
Definition of done
make try passes on a fresh clone with no cyberdyne directory, touches nothing outside its temporary directory, and leaves no temporary directory behind.
make check and script/cibuild pass. PR to next, independent review, squash.
Model: opus-5-5
`make try` runs against `$(HOME)/Documents/_SYSADMIN/cyberdyne`, a fixed directory on one person's machine. For anyone else it fails. Where that directory exists it changes real files: it removes and rewrites their checksum attributes and runs `touch` on every file in it, changing their modification times. `TODO.md` already lists this under Next Step.
