Main branch should have branch protection enabled: require PR reviews, prevent force push, prevent deletion. This is a repo settings change that requires admin access.

Also add branch protection to the next branch.

Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
