Five defects traced to one fact: src/background/index.js read and wrote the
module-level `state` singleton in src/shared/state.js, which the MV3 service
worker never populates and which answered an unpopulated read out of
DEFAULT_STATE in silence. Every previous fix added a loadState() before the
access, and that is what produced the fifth: a load detaches the objects an
in-flight handler is holding.
So the reachability goes rather than a sixth call site.
The background now has its own storage layer, src/background/state.js:
getState() is a detached, normalized per-call read, and updateState() is a
queued read-modify-write whose read is one storage round trip ahead of its
write. Nothing in the background holds an in-memory copy of the profile.
- Every handler takes one snapshot and answers from it, including the address
it names: activeAddressOf(s) replaced a second, later storage read that
could disagree with the first.
- wallet_switchEthereumChain applies applyChainSwitchFields() (split out of
chainSwitch.js, which keeps the singleton path for the popup) inside
updateState() instead of calling onChainSwitch() on the singleton.
- The remembered site decision is a read-modify-write, not a load-mutate-save
around a prompt the user takes seconds to answer.
- backgroundRefresh() refreshes a private copy of the wallets and applies the
balances that came back by address, so it never publishes an object other
in-flight work holds, and a wallet added or deleted during the round trip
survives its write.
- The transaction attempt takes its chain id and its endpoint from the same
snapshot. They used to come from different moments, so a chain switch
committed in between moved the endpoint under an artifact already verified
against the old chain.
getProvider(rpcUrl, networkId) now REQUIRES the network id and validates it
against networks.js. That closes the cold-worker wrong-chain send at its shape
rather than at one call site: the hint used to default to currentNetwork() off
the unpopulated singleton, so the endpoint was the user's chain and ethers
fixed chainId at 0x1, and the wallet's own verifySignedTx then refused every
non-mainnet dApp send. refreshBalances(), lookupTokenInfo(), scanForAddresses()
and resolveEnsName() carry the id through; balances.js no longer requires
state.js at all.
The prohibition is enforced mechanically, not by review: a custom ESLint rule
walks the CommonJS require graph from every src/background/ file and fails the
lint when src/shared/state.js is reachable, naming the chain. A re-export from
any shared module cannot put the singleton back in the bundle unnoticed.
The rule's matcher covers every specifier syntax esbuild resolves statically —
quoted require, backtick require, dynamic import(), and a static import/export
`from` clause — because a narrower match is not a matter of tidiness but a sixth
site the build cannot see: each of those shapes was measured to put state.js in
dist/chrome/src/background/index.js while the lint stayed clean.
tests/backgroundStateLintRule.test.js pins all of them, plus the two-hop
re-export, against a real fixture tree. A computed specifier
(require("../shared/" + "state")) is deliberately not matched: esbuild cannot
resolve it either, so it never reaches the bundle.
Reading a persisted field of the singleton before any load now throws
StateNotLoadedError instead of serving DEFAULT_STATE.
Test stubs: chrome.storage.local is a serialization boundary, and eight files
stubbed it with an aliasing get, so the object a module held and the object
"storage" held were one object — an assertion could pass on a build that never
wrote anything. Every test that drives real persistence now goes through
tests/support/storageStub.js, which structured-clones in both directions.

A hostile ERC-20's symbol() reached an innerHTML string unescaped, and neither
manifest declared default-src, so an attacker deploying a token with 1,000+
holders and airdropping one unit could render a full-viewport cross-origin
iframe over the wallet's own UI, on screens where the user types their
password.
escapeHtml is now a pure string replace over & < > " ' — the old version
round-tripped through textContent, which escapes neither quote, while already
being used inside data-copy="...". All 19 files in src/popup/views/ were
audited: beyond the reported symbol site, the explorer-supplied directionLabel
in all three transaction lists, wallet.name, addr.ensName, the blockie data:
URIs and two ad-hoc quote-only escapes were also unescaped. Explorer URLs now
go through one helper that percent-encodes the path segment.
Both manifests add default-src 'self', frame-src 'none', form-action 'none' and
base-uri 'none'. Three loosenings are pinned in tests/manifest.test.js and
justified in README.md: style-src 'unsafe-inline' (39 static style attributes;
Firefox implements neither style-src-attr nor 'unsafe-hashes'), img-src data:
(blockies), connect-src https: http: (user-configurable RPC).
Note frame-src 'none' blocks a frame loading, not the element existing, so the
zero-iframe assertion is a claim about the escaping alone; the test asserts the
element count and the literal rendered text separately, taking the count before
any click an overlay could intercept.
Verified: make check 39 suites / 811 tests, test-e2e 55/55 including the
WebAssembly-under-CSP assertion, test-e2e-firefox 8/8, zero CSP violations
asserted rather than merely unobserved. Reverting only balanceLine's
interpolation reproduces the attack as 2 iframes on the address screen.
## Summary
Fixes the view stack pop bug where pressing Back in Settings (or any view) always returned to Main instead of the previous view.
Closes [issue #134](#134)
## Problem
The popup UI had no navigation stack. Every back button was hardcoded to a specific destination (usually Main). The reported path:
> Main → Address → Transaction → Settings (gear icon) → Back
...would go to Main instead of returning to the Transaction view.
## Solution
Implemented a proper view navigation stack (like iOS) as already described in the README:
- **`viewStack`** array added to persisted state — survives popup close/reopen
- **`pushCurrentView()`** — pushes the current view name onto the stack before any forward navigation
- **`goBack()`** — pops the stack and shows the previous view; falls back to Main if the stack is empty; re-renders the wallet list when returning to Main
- **`clearViewStack()`** — resets the stack for root transitions (e.g., after adding/deleting a wallet)
### What Changed
1. **helpers.js** — Added navigation stack functions (`pushCurrentView`, `goBack`, `clearViewStack`, `setRenderMain`)
2. **state.js** — Added `viewStack` to persisted state
3. **index.js** — All `ctx.show*()` wrappers now push before navigating forward; gear button uses stack for toggle behavior
4. **All view back buttons** — Replaced hardcoded destinations with `goBack()` (settings, addressDetail, addressToken, transactionDetail, send, receive, addToken, confirmTx, addWallet, settingsAddToken, deleteWallet, export-privkey)
5. **Direct `showView()` forward navigations** — Added `pushCurrentView()` calls before `showView("send")` in addressDetail, addressToken, and home; before `showView("export-privkey")` in addressDetail; before `deleteWallet.show()` in settings
6. **Reset-to-root transitions** — `clearViewStack()` called after adding a wallet (all 3 import types), after deleting the last wallet, and after transaction completion (Done button)
### Navigation Paths Verified
- **Main → Settings → Back** → returns to Main ✓
- **Main → Address → Settings → Back** → returns to Address ✓
- **Main → Address → Transaction → Settings → Back** → returns to Transaction ✓ (the reported bug)
- **Main → Address → Token → Send → ConfirmTx → Back → Back → Back → Back** → unwinds correctly through each view back to Main ✓
- **Main → Address → Token → Transaction → Settings → Back** → returns to Transaction ✓
- **Settings → Add Wallet → (add) → Main** → stack cleared, fresh root ✓
- **Settings → Delete Wallet → Back** → returns to Settings ✓
- **Settings → Delete Wallet → (confirm)** → stack reset to [main], settings shown ✓
- **Address → Send → ConfirmTx → (broadcast) → SuccessTx → Done** → stack reset, returns to address context ✓
- **Popup close/reopen** → viewStack persisted, back navigation still works ✓

- Etherscan external link icon
## Changes
Refactored all 9 view files that display addresses to use the shared utility:
- **approval.js** (approve-tx, approve-sign, approve-site): addresses now have click-to-copy with dashed underline affordance
- **confirmTx.js**: from/to addresses and token contract address use shared renderer
- **txStatus.js**: wait/success/error transaction addresses
- **transactionDetail.js**: from/to and decoded calldata addresses
- **home.js**: active address display
- **send.js**: from-address display
- **receive.js**: receive address display
- **addressDetail.js**: address line and export-privkey address
- **addressToken.js**: address line and contract info
## Consolidation
- `EXT_ICON` SVG constant: removed 6 duplicates, now in helpers.js
- `copyableHtml()`: removed duplicate, now in helpers.js
- `etherscanLinkHtml()`: removed duplicates, now in helpers.js
- `attachCopyHandlers()`: removed duplicate, now in helpers.js
- Net: **-193 lines** (174 added, 367 removed)

## Summary
Fixes USD prices still showing on the main view when connected to a testnet (e.g. Sepolia). The root cause was stale mainnet prices lingering in the in-memory price cache after switching networks.
### Root Cause
PR #137 correctly made `refreshPrices()` skip fetching on testnets, but the cached prices from a prior mainnet session remained in the `prices` object. All display functions (`getPrice()`, `getAddressValueUsd()`, etc.) used whatever was cached without checking which network was active.
### Changes
- **`src/shared/prices.js`**
- `refreshPrices()` now clears the price cache when on a testnet instead of silently returning
- New `clearPrices()` function empties the cache and resets the fetch timestamp
- `getPrice()` returns null on testnets (defense-in-depth)
- `getAddressValueUsd()`, `getWalletValueUsd()`, `getTotalValueUsd()` return null on testnets
- **`src/popup/views/settings.js`**
- Network switcher immediately clears prices when switching to a testnet, so the UI updates without waiting for the next refresh cycle

## Summary
Adds Sepolia testnet support to AutistMask.
### Changes
- **New `src/shared/networks.js`** — centralized network definitions (mainnet + Sepolia) with chain IDs, default RPC/Blockscout endpoints, and block explorer URLs
- **State management** — `networkId` added to persisted state; defaults to mainnet for backward compatibility
- **Settings UI** — network selector dropdown lets users switch between Ethereum Mainnet and Sepolia Testnet
- **Dynamic explorer links** — all hardcoded `etherscan.io` URLs replaced with dynamic links from the current network config (`sepolia.etherscan.io` for Sepolia)
- **Background service** — `wallet_switchEthereumChain` now accepts both mainnet (0x1) and Sepolia (0xaa36a7); broadcasts `chainChanged` to connected dApps
- **Inpage provider** — fetches chain ID on init and updates dynamically via `chainChanged` events (no more hardcoded `0x1`)
- **Blockscout API** — uses `eth-sepolia.blockscout.com/api/v2` for Sepolia
- **Etherscan labels** — phishing/scam checks use the correct explorer per network
- **Price fetching** — skipped on testnets (testnet tokens have no real market value)
- **RPC validation** — checks against the selected network's chain ID, not hardcoded mainnet
- **ethers provider** — `getProvider()` uses the correct ethers `Network` for Sepolia
### API Endpoints Verified

All isoDate() functions now output proper ISO 8601 format with timezone
offset (e.g. 2026-02-28T15:30:00-08:00) instead of bare datetime strings.
Also uses 'T' separator per ISO 8601.

When a user clicks to copy text (addresses, tx hashes, etc.), the copied
element now briefly flashes with inverted colors (bg/fg swap) and fades
back over ~300ms. This provides localized visual feedback in addition to
the existing flash message.
Applied to all click-to-copy elements across all views.
closes#100
Clear the error/warning text and disable the review button when entering
the send view from home, address detail, or address token views. This
prevents stale validation messages from persisting after leaving and
returning to the send view.
When tokenBalances doesn't contain an entry for a token (e.g. before
balances are fetched), the symbol fell back to '?' in addressToken
and send views.
Add resolveSymbol() helper that checks tokenBalances → TOKEN_BY_ADDRESS
(known tokens) → trackedTokens → truncated address as last resort.
Fixes USDC and other known tokens showing '?' when balance data
hasn't loaded yet.
Extends the fallback chain to: tb → state.trackedTokens → TOKEN_BY_ADDRESS → '?'
This ensures user-added custom tokens (not just hardcoded known tokens)
display correct symbol, name, and decimals even when Blockscout hasn't
returned balance data (e.g. zero-balance tracked tokens).
When a token's balance entry is missing or incomplete (e.g. not yet
fetched from Blockscout), the address-token view and send view now
fall back to the built-in known token list for symbol, name, and
decimals instead of showing '?'.
Also includes token name in the balance object returned by
fetchTokenBalances so the contract info well can display it.
Fixes#51
Previously, ENS reverse lookups were only performed for the single
counterparty address (from or to depending on direction). This meant
contract interaction targets and the non-counterparty side of
transactions never got ENS names resolved.
Now both from and to addresses are collected for ENS resolution,
ensuring all displayed addresses show their ENS names when available.
- Remove border, add rounded corners and horizontal margin
- Each attribute on its own line (key: value format)
- Move well below send/receive buttons
- Add project/token URL from tokenlist when available
- Import TOKEN_BY_ADDRESS for URL lookup
- Replace border-b styling with bg-hover + dashed border for visual
distinction from wallet address
- Rename label from "Token Contract" to "Contract Address"
- Addresses feedback on #9
- Update Architecture tree to match actual src/ structure
- Fix settings button to have border and hover state (Clickable Affordance)
- Cap truncateMiddle to remove at most 10 chars (anti-spoofing guard)
- Raise caller floor from 10 to 32 chars for address display
- Fill in default RPC URL (ethereum-rpc.publicnode.com)
- Fix dependencies table intro (four runtime libs, not two)
- Clean up TODO section: remove all completed items
Reserve vertical space with min-height and placeholders for all
elements populated by async data: per-address USD totals, ETH price
display, token balance containers, and total value sub-line. Prevents
buttons and click targets from moving when price API responds.
Contract interactions (approve, swap, etc.) now display the method
name and token symbol instead of the meaningless 0 ETH value.
Blockscout provides the method name and whether the target is a
contract — parseTx uses these plus TOKEN_BY_ADDRESS to produce
labels like "Approve USDT" or "Swap LINK".
Added directionLabel field to parsed transactions so renderers
don't need to know about the sent/received/contract distinction.
Also: clicking a transaction on the home screen now opens the
transaction detail view instead of navigating to the address
detail view.
Creates a centralized transactionDetail.js view module, replacing
the duplicated showTxDetail/copyableHtml/blockieHtml/txDetailAddressHtml
code that was in both addressDetail.js and addressToken.js (~120 lines
removed). Transaction data is stored in state.viewData and persisted,
so the transaction detail view survives popup close/reopen.
Adds viewData to persisted state. Each view that needs data for
restore stores it in state.viewData before rendering. The ctx object
now has showTransactionDetail() alongside all other show methods.
Restorable views expanded to include: transaction (via viewData.tx),
success-tx (via viewData.hash/blockNumber), error-tx (via
viewData.message). txStatus.js split into show (sets data) + render
(reads data) for each screen, enabling restore.
Non-restorable views (send, confirm-tx, wait-tx, add-wallet,
import-key, add-token) fall back to the nearest parent since they
involve active form state or network polling.
The current view, selected wallet, selected address, and selected
token are now saved to extension storage. When the popup reopens,
it restores to the last visited view instead of always returning
to the home screen.
Restorable views: main, address detail, address-token, receive,
settings. Non-restorable views (send, confirm, tx status, forms)
fall back to the nearest parent. Stored indices are validated
against current wallet data to handle stale references.
Also refactors receive view setup into a centralized receive.show()
function, eliminating duplicate QR/address/warning code from
addressDetail.js, addressToken.js, and home.js. Adds settings.show()
to centralize settings field population.
Receive view: address now shows color dot and etherscan link,
matching every other address display in the app.
Send view "From": address now includes etherscan link alongside
the existing color dot.
Send view "What to send" (ERC-20 from token view): shows token
symbol as bold heading, then full contract address below with
color dot, copy-on-click, and etherscan link.
Approval views: tx approval From/To addresses now show color
dots and etherscan links instead of bare text. Site approval
address adds etherscan link. Tx approval value uses 4 decimal
places consistent with all other amount displays.
Home tx list: row padding changed from py-1 to py-2, matching
addressDetail and addressToken transaction lists.
When sending from the address-token view, show the token symbol as
plain text instead of a disabled dropdown. ERC-20 tokens include an
etherscan link to the contract address. The dropdown is restored when
navigating back or entering send from other views.
The warning about only sending ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum network
belongs on the receive page where the QR code is shown, not on the
token detail view. Non-token receive flows hide the warning.
Clicking a token balance on the address detail view navigates to a
focused view showing only that token's transactions. Send pre-selects
and locks the token dropdown, Receive shows an ERC-20 warning for
non-ETH tokens, and all back buttons return to the correct parent view.
